Posted or Updated on 22 Apr 2026
Important Update on the Shingles Vaccine (from 1 September 2025)
The shingrix vaccine is now available to:
All severely immunosuppressed patients aged 18 and over (previously only for those 50+).
Why the change?
Severely immunosuppressed adults under 50 face the same risks of severe shingles complications as older adults, including hospitalization and long-term nerve pain.
Vaccine Schedule:
Two doses of Shingrix (non-live vaccine)
Second dose given 8 weeks–6 months after the first
If delayed, continue the course (no need to restart)
Even if you’ve had the older Zostavax vaccine, you are still eligible.
If you think this applies to you, please contact the practice team for advice. We will be inviting all of our eligible patients.
