⚠️ Important Update on Friends and Family Survey Response Numbers
You may notice a significant drop in the number of Friends and Family Test (FFT) responses we publish from June 2025 onwards. This is due to a recent change in the way we send out FFT invitations via SMS text messaging.
Previously, a large volume of messages were sent out to patients automatically after their appointments, which generated a high number of responses each month. However, during 2024/2025 the cost to the NHS was circa £2 million across the North East and North Cumbria area for SMS messages. We are therefore working on ways to improve efficiency, reduce unnecessary messaging, and reduce costs and are streamlining our SMS communications. As a result, fewer FFT messages are being sent via SMS text messaging, which naturally means fewer responses are being received.
This change is intentional and part of a wider effort to ensure communications are more targeted and cost-effective, while still capturing valuable patient feedback.
We want to reassure all patients and members of the public that this drop in numbers does not reflect a decrease in service quality or engagement - it simply reflects a change in how feedback is collected. We want to encourage patients still to give us feedback via FFT, this can be submitted online via our website or by completing the survey in the Practice, as well as responding to the SMS text message if you do receive one.
